A Seminar on: the Assessment of the Organizations' Parallel Forum of the African Committee for Human Rights

The Society Studies Centre held, on 8 April 2009 in the Center's Hall, a seminar entitled: the Assessment of the Organizations' Parallel Forum of the African Committee for Human Rights. A group of activities and participants in the works of the committee spoke on that.

These were:

-      Ustaz: Salah Al Mubarak.

-      Ustaz: Al Tayeb Haroun.

-      Ustaz: Suzan Al Sadiq.

Al Mubarak spoke on the importance of the Committee which is affiliated to the African Union. He made some observations such as its constitution which allows organizations to make donations and to participate, stating that major organizations have great resources and have influence on the Committee's resolutions.

Ustaz Suzan Al Sadiq said that what characterizes the Committee's meetings is that they are international−organizations come from Africa. There are 8 Sudanese organizations, too, but whith no effective attendance, and they are not very interested.

Ustaz Haroun argued that we badly need there to be a co-ordination between Sudanese organizations to fill the gap of foreign organizations. There are also to be some programmes for organizations working in the field of human rights. We should also put in mind the decision of deporting foreign organization. There is also to be co-operation with African brothers and inside the African Union, for the latter's support has proved to be effective in many decisions.

The workshops came out with the following recommendations:

  •       The need to co-ordinate with the organizations participating in the works of the Committee.

  •       Making programmes for the organizations working in the field of human rights.

  •       Discussing some of the resolutions issued about Sudan.
