In its first action outside Sudan, after
obtaining the (special) consultative capacity of the
Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the (UN), the Centre
participated in the sessions of the 9th Round of the Human
Rights Council held in Geneva from 8-25/9/2008, through a
delegation headed by Ustaz/ Masha'er Ahmad Al Ameen Al
Dawallab – Director General. The delegation incuded Dr.
Muhammad Al faith Braima – the Centre's Advisor for Human
Rights and External Communications, and Ustaz/ Nagla
Muhammad Abdal Raheem – in charge of the Centre's Human
Rights Gateway.
The Centre
participated in this round by two written statements on the
rights to development and use of children in the attacks on
Umdurman. These were accompanied by two oral statements
delivered by the Director General. The first statement dealt
with "Right to Development", whereas the second dealt with
the "Renewal of the Governance of Seema Samar".
The Centre also
participated in several similar activities held within the
programmes of this round. That included a symposium convened
by Sudan's Permanent Commission in Geneva where some members
of the Government delegation spoke about situations in
Darfur and the children participating in the attacks of
Umdurman, and a symposium by Arab lawyers that discussed
among others things the Darfur issue and the International
Criminal Court .
On the other
hand, the Centre's delegation held a series of meetings and
visits including a meeting with the Director of the Cango
Organization, for strengthening themeans of contact and
clarifying woman's situation in Sudan. Finally, they held a
meeting with Mr. Recardo Sbinoza- in charge of
non-governmental organizations in the (UN) office in Geneva
who in turn expressed his full co-operation with all. The
delegation also made a visit to the residence of the Swiss
Mardat Organisation.
