On 28 June
the activities of the celebrations of international day
against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, organized by the
Society Studies Center, Rufaida Health Foundation and Life
Makers Organization, were concluded by the sport program
organized in al-Usra Club (Family Club) in Khartoum 2 which
was honored by the minister of youths and sport, Haj Majed
Swar. The program contained different intermissions was
under the slogan “Sport is a protections against drug”. The
minister praised the Group experience and adopted
propositions on generalizing the secondary schools students
training by associating awareness on the drug’s risks
through the program “Sport for Health” carried out by the
ministry, this year, in addition to the proposition under
which the State adopts the treatment of drug-addicts at its
own expense.This
sport carnival comes as a conclusion to the different
activities carried out by this Group in the cadre of the
international day against drug and illicit trafficking (June
26) under the slogan “Our strength is in our society… our
strength is in our youths…no for drugs) which were launched
since the 3rd of June targeting the secondary schools
students in Khartoum State by the organization of two
training courses on warnings about drugs risks, as
commencement of a program aiming to train 350 students in
addition to training courses for 22 trainers assigned to
enlighten the universities’ students and youths. As well,
the group performed many programs coincided with the
international day against drug and illicit trafficking
represented in the presentation of 4 lectures in the morning
programs in 4 secondary schools in Bahri locality. In
addition, the Group in cooperation with the Artists Union
and the honoree Ust, Afaf Ahmed Abdurrahma, minister of
social affairs in Khartoum State, prepared a wall drawing of
awareness (3 m in width and 8 m length) in al-Ghaba street
tunnel.
The activities included, also, intensive
programs in the media in the TV, advertisements in streets
and electronic advertisements in Khartoum, Portsudan and
Nyala.The campaign was highly welcomed by the Sudanese
society in both civil and official levels. |

Training Course on Drugs:
The Society
Studies Center, Rufaida Health Foundation and Life Makers
Organization (the project of the future defenders)
organized, in Sharq al-Nile locality, a training course for
secondary schools students on the enlightenment on drugs
dangers, which was attended by (23) students (boys and
girls) from the locality schools. The course is in a series
of courses targeting to prepare (350) students (boys and
girls) to be as lecturers to enlighten their colleagues on
drugs in Khartoum State schools.
The course is
presented by specialized youth trainers, and it will be in
form of approved scientific revised syllabus in cope with
targeted age category.
It is
noteworthy that these courses, held in cooperation with the
Union of Khartoum Students and its branches in the locality,
are in the cadre of a series of varied programs that their
activities are due to be concluded on the 1st day of the
international day against drug (June 26, 2010). |

The Society
Studies Center (SSC) representative, Dr. Mohammed al-Fatih
Breima, participated as observer, in the non-official
consultations sessions of the UN general assembly with NGOs
and the private sector, on the realization of millennium
development goals as preparations to discuss this topic in
the Heads of States summit of the UN general assembly
scheduled to be held in September 2010. The consultations
sessions lasted for two days from 14 to 15 June 2010 at the
UN HQ in New York. 4 Interactive sessions were held between
the UN organizations and UN general assembly members and
each session was chaired by a representative from the States
members. |

SSC Participation in
the 47th session of the African Commission for Human
Rights:
The
Society Studies Center Advisor, Mohammed Al-Fatih
Breima and Ustaz, Mohammed Salah from the Human
Rights department, participated in the 47th session
of African Commission for Human Rights, organized
from12 to 26 May 2010, in the Gambian Capital,
Banjul, after the Center had obtained the observer
status in the Commission in the mid of the year 2009
and participated in the 46th session organized on
November 2009.
In
the recent session the Center participation covered
the period from 12 to 14 May 2010 during which a
governmental delegation, headed by Dr. Abdalmunim
Osman, M. Bushara Dossa and Mahmoud Dagdag in
addition to a delegation from the ministry of
foreign affairs.
The
1st session which was specified to the States
representatives, had passed the agenda of the 2nd
session, and was addressed by the African
Institutions representatives concerned by the Human
Rights. In this session, the Sudanese delegation
contributed by two statements.
In
addition, the Center delegation with the
governmental delegation, participated in the
symposium organized by Cairo Center for Human Rights
and the African Organization of the Human Rights.
In
the session 3rd day, the Center presented two
statements on the Sudanese elections and the women’s
role in these elections. It, also, prepared
recommendations, on the necessity of the regular
NGOs participation in the sessions of the African
Commission for Human Rights as well as providing
them with the observer status.

In the cadre
of Society Studies
Center participation in the 47th session of the African
Commission for Human Rights organized from12 to 26 May 2010,
in the Gambian Capital, Banjul, the SSC representative,
Dr. Mohammed Al-Fatih Breima, participated in the meeting
of African Union Organs on the Human Rights Strategy
for Africa held from 10 to 12 May 2010, in response to
invitation presented by Salah Hamad, director of Human
Rights Dossier in the AU. The meeting was an opportunity to
know some responsible of dossiers and institutions human
rights in Africa.
The SSC was
one of 3 NGOs from the continent that attended the meeting. |

Dialogue Session on
Southern Sudan Referendum:
The
Society Study Center held, on May 17, 2010, a
dialogue session on the issues of unity and
secession at the Centers Hall. The session was
attended by experts, civil society organizations and
the Sudanese national organizations.
The
legal expert, Dr. Abdurrahman Ibrahim al-Khalifa
addressed the session commencing his speech by a
briefing on the self-determination and its first
beginning in 1919 and 2002 Machakos agreement.
Tackling the referendum and the popular
consultation, he warned that Sudan is in crossroads
and in a decisive and serious period, which will
deicide on, whether Sudan will remain in its
inherited form or it will give naissance to new
entity.
The
attendees contributed by the following visions and
recommendations:
- Insisting on the international observation
- Observing the referendum register
- Intensifying the national organizations
activities and the necessity of enhancing unity
- Organizing meetings with Southern Sudan
leaders, in both the North and the South, preaching
to make the unity option attractive as well as
caring about Moslems in the South.

A Statement on Termination of Registration for Elections
The Forum for
the Organizations having the UN’s advisory status issued a
statement upon the termination of registration for
elections. It has commended the National Commission for
Elections on its facilitation of organizations’
participation monitoring elections. It has also
congratulated Sudanese people on their political awareness
represented in the participation of more than 15,000,000 out
of 19,000,000 electors.

The SSC: A Supervisor of Elections
The National
Commission for Elections nominated the SSC as a supervisor
over the process of the electors registration which began on
1/11/2009.
The Centre seeks to make certain of the safety of electoral
process and its conformity with the roles and regulations
set to ensure its integrity. The Centre is keen on the
importance of supervising elections, particularly the role
of Sudanese civil community organizations, putting in mind
that several international organizations act as supervisor
on elections such as the UN and Carter Centre. |

A Seminar on: the Assessment
of the Organizations' Parallel Forum of the African
Committee for Human Rights
The Society
Studies Centre held, on 8 April 2009 in the Center's Hall, a
seminar entitled: the Assessment of the Organizations'
Parallel Forum of the African Committee for Human Rights. A
group of activities and participants in the works of the
committee spoke on that.

The Right to
Education: Legislations and Realities
The Society Studies
Centre held, in co-operation with the Sudanese Organization for
Education Development (SOED) in Martyr Al Zibair Hall on Monday 19th
January 2009, a symposium entitled: "The Right to Education:
Legislations and Realities". The speakers therein were Professor AlHibir
Yusuf, Ustaz Abdalbasit Abdalmajid, Dr. Abubakr Muhammad Ahmad, and Dr.

The Centre's Participation in the African Organizations'
Forum
The Centre
participated in the early African Organizations Forum within
the framework of the work of the African Committee for Human
and People's Rights, 44th Round, held in the Nigerian
capital of Abuja from 7-10 November 2008. The centre was

The Centre
Lunches its Consultative Capacity by Participating in the 9th Round of
the Human Rights Council
In its first action
outside Sudan, after obtaining the (special) consultative capacity of
the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the (UN), the Centre
participated in the sessions of the 9th Round of the Human Rights
Council held in Geneva from 8-25/9/2008, through a delegation headed by
Ustaz/ Masha'er Ahmad Al Ameen Al Dawallab – Director General. The
delegation incuded Dr. Muhammad Al faith Braima – the Centre's Advisor
for Human Rights and External Communications, and Ustaz/ Nagla Muhammad
Abdal Raheem – in charge of the Centre's Human Rights Gateway.

Participation in the Conference of the (UN) Department of Public
Information (DPI)
The Center participated
in the conference of the (DPI) on human rights together with the
non-governmental organizations from 2-6 September 2008 in Paris, France,
on the 60th anniversary of the International Declaration of Human
Rights. This was the Centre's first participation after obtaining the
consultative capacity of the UN

The Centre obtained this
(special) capacity of the (ECOSOC) of the (UN) after the council's
passing, in a meeting held in New York from 18-28 July 2008, the
recommendation of the committee of non-governmental organizations for
according this capacity with 65 other organizations over the world.

The Seminar
of the Deployment of Hybrid Forces and the SOFA Agreement: The Pros and
Cons
The
Centre held a seminar entitled: "The Deployment of Hybrid Forces and the
SOFA Agreement: The Pros and Cons" on Tuesday 4/3/2008 in Martyr Al
Zubair5 Hall for Conferences the speakers in which were Ambassador Bilal
Gasmallah and Dr. AlSadiq Al Faqih. The session was run by Ambassador
Dr. Sirag Aldeen Hamid, and commented on by his Excellency Lieutenant
General Dr. Adil AlA'gib, Major General Dr. Muhammad AlA'bbas, Dr. Fai'z
UmarJami'e, and Dr. Baha Aldeen Makkawi.
